Cecilia Reyes was a bilingual reporter on Business Insider's investigations team. She worked on a three-part series on illegal evictions or lockouts which was awarded the 2025 Mike Berger and August Sidney Award.
Reyes also worked at the Chicago Tribune. Her work on a series, "The Failures Before the Fires" exposed how government officials in Chicago were warned about safety issues in dozens of homes before fires killed 61 adults and children. This reporting was honored with a Pulitzer Prize for local reporting in 2022.
She and colleagues covered flaws in Illinois' gun licensing laws and racial disparities in the pricing and loss of drinking water in the Northeast Illinois region.
Before the Tribune, Reyes was a fellow at ProPublica where she was part of the news applications team and reported on metal detectors in New York City public schools.
Cecilia graduated from Columbia University and was born and raised in Mexico City.
